Sweat It Out

Wellness Wednesday: Sweat It Out

When was the last time you worked up a good sweat? I know for me it's been too long. I find that I need to be intentional about things like exercise, and other activities that get a good sweat going. Here in TN, the summer months play their part in getting to the great health benefits of sweating!

Did you know about some of these great benefits of sweating?

  1. Detox

One of the primary functions of sweat is to cool the body down, but the other is detoxification. From heavy metals to endocrine disruptors like BPA. Your sweat plays a big role in detoxing the body.

  2. Promote Healthier Skin

The skin microbiome balance is important. Sweat contributes to healthy skin bacteria and deep sweating can also improve skin cell turnover and remove pathogenic bacteria.

  3. Defeat Harmful Microbes

Sweat contains some of the same antimicrobial proteins that are known to bind with certain bacteria and viruses in the body, including H. pylori, E. coli and HIV. These antimicrobial substances help flush out toxins and attack germs.

  4. Heart Health

Exercise or saunas can increases circulation and strengthen the cardiovascular system. Saunas are also really relaxing leading to stress relief, which is also good for the heart.

  5. Exercise Recovery

Boosts blood flow to the skeletal muscles to increase recovery time from illness, injury and muscle strain.

  6. Lower Risk of Kidney Stones

Researchers at the University of Washington found the benefits of sweating through consistent exercise reduces this risk. Excess salt and calcium can form kidney stones over time, but sweating boosts the body’s natural balance and directs calcium to our bones instead

These are just a few of the benefits.

So, not only is sweating your body's own built-in AC but there are some awesome health reasons to work up a sweat. "But how?" you ask?

Exercise - This is a great way to get a good sweat going. Plus you get all the other benefits of working out.

Sauna - Another popular way to get a deep sweat is a sauna. There are lots of options out there for this from portable ones to gyms that offer them. Some saunas also offer the benefit of far inferred technology.

Remember to get your personal detox systems cranking by working up a good sweat.

If you are new to this just remember to be safe, don't go overboard and talk to your doctor if you need advice on what you can handle.

Until next time! Make good choices and stay healthy! 😀
